Node Identity

A federation participant's stable identity, distinct from federation membership.

Definition

A node's identity in a federation is the stable set of claims, authority and evidence surfaces attributed to that node, independent of federation membership. Joining or leaving a federation does not alter node identity; it alters only what other nodes may see and share.

Limitations

  • Node identity is what a node declares of itself; federation may accept or refuse the declaration
  • Identity is not authority; a node may exist without authority in a given domain
